Go Pirates!

Show your support for the Pasco Pirates as they play AT HOME this Friday against Tallahassee in the Class 3A State Semifinal Game. If they win this game they will be headed to the State Finals! I just got a direct quote from St. Petersburg Times Reporter Izzy Gould “This is the 2nd most important game in Pasco Football History. The First being the State Title in 1992.” Anything the community can do to show their support for the team leading up to the game and in the stands the night of the game will make it that much easier for the team to do their best on the field.

Don’t wait until Friday to show your support for our football team! Decorate your windows, hang up signs, wear black and red the rest of the week! Show your Paso High Pirate Pride!

Winners Announced for the Secretary of State’s

2008 Florida Main Street Awards

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Secretary of State Kurt S. Browning has announced the recipients of the Secretary of State’s 2008 Florida Main Street Awards. “I am proud to recognize the activities and accomplishments of this year’s honorees,” said Secretary Browning. “Their sincere focus on preservation and contributions to Main Street programs across the state are essential to the revitalization of Florida’s traditional commercial districts.

The Secretary’s awards are based on the recommendations of the Ad Hoc Florida Main Street Awards Committee, which convened earlier to consider the applications received for 2008. The Committee included Joan Jefferson, Florida Main Street Program coordinator; Phillip Wisley, Florida Main Street Program architect; and three local Main Street program managers: Laird Gann, Melbourne Main Street; Bernard Malone, Stuart Main Street; and Ronni Wood, Main Street Winter Haven, Inc.

The awards program encourages and acknowledges local Main Street program accomplishments that advance the goals of the Florida Main Street Program. Florida Main Street is a technical assistance program of the Bureau of Historic Preservation, Division of Historical Resources, Florida Department of State. The Bureau conducts statewide programs aimed at identifying, evaluating, and preserving Florida's historic resources. Main Street, with its emphasis on preservation, is an effective strategy for achieving these goals in Florida's historic retail districts. Since 1985, the Bureau has offered manager training, consultant team visits, design and other technical assistance, as well as the benefit of experience gained by other Florida Main Street programs.

Main Street & Dade City CRA Spruce up downtown

Downtown Dade City Main Street Inc. and the Dade City Community Redevelopment Agency worked together to freshen up the flower pots in downtown Dade City. On June 24, 2008 Dade City Main Street presented a proposal to the CRA to replant all of the flower pots downtown. Main Street was willing to pay 25% if the CRA would fund 75% of the project. Main Street presented a quote from The Gardens Wholesale Nursery to plant Little Gem Magnolias in the 34 large pots and Knock Out Roses in the 29 small pots. The total cost of the project was $4,145 and included a generous donation from The Gardens Wholesale Nursery of 2 Little Gem Magnolia Trees and 2 Knock Out Roses. The project was approved unanimously by the CRA.

On July 1, 2008 The Gardens Wholesale Nursery started the process of removing all of the dead plant material from the pots and planting the new plants and trees. The work was completed within a few days, even with a few rain delays. The next time you are downtown take some time to stop and smell the Little Gem Magnolias which are currently blooming.

Dade City Police Department ALERT

The Dade City Police Department is experiencing a marked increase in burglaries of automobiles. These are occurring in all areas of the City and are occurring at night and in the daytime. We have had burglaries in both business and residential neighborhoods. In many of these the windows are being broken out and some of them the vehicles are unlocked. Purses, cameras, guns, credit/debit cards, cash and other items are being taken. The Police Department has also had several attempted use of the stolen debit cards in local businesses.

These crimes are opportunity driven and when items are left in the vehicle in view they are seen and taken. We would ask that items of value are not left in view in your vehicle and that you ensure that the vehicles are locked.

Additionally if you see anything suspicious or have questions, please contact the Dade City Police Department at 521-1493.
