Green Guide for Dade City

Please use this sheet as an informal guide to green living in Dade City. Please check out myspace.com/greendadecity for the most current info. For questions or suggestions be my friend on myspace or write to vert.sean@gmail.com

Recycling 101

Central Carting offers a recycling program. Recycling material must be place in blue bags to differentiate between trash and recyclables. These bags may be purchased at most of the local grocery stores. Do not place blue bags in cans or any other container. Please put out blue bags only when full. The blue bags will be picked up on Wednesdays of every week.

The following items can be recycled and may be mixed together in the blue bags:

-Clean (rinsed) aluminum cans (or donate to Habitat for Humanity, bin behind city hall)
-Clean (rinsed) metal food cans
-Clean (rinsed) glass bottles and jars
-Plastic containers with codes: No. 1/PET or No. 2/HDPE

Here are some key drop-off locations for items not on Central Carting’s list

-Styrofoam #6 can be dropped off at the Publix in Zephyrhills

-Cardboard, yes even those cereal boxes, can be dropped off behind the Green Apple (by the Wachovia on 301) in the cardboard dumpster

-Newspaper and office paper can be dropped in the bins on the east side of The First Baptist Church on Church St.

-All metals can be taken to Pasco Recycling, north on 301

-Food waste should be composted, not put in the landfills; check online for composting tips it’s easy and doesn’t have to be messy

Don’t use paper towels! Instead cut up old worn out clothes, towels and sheets and use them as rags. This is a great way to save money, reduce waste, and reduce deforestation

Cutback on harsh cleaning agents, baking soda and vinegar works wonders. Our local supermarkets all carry brands that are good for you and the environment.

Buy from and donate to local thrift stores. Check out Solutions thrift shop or Habitat ReStore. You can find great bargains while helping your favorite charities. ephabitat.org/restore.php

We have three options in Dade City: a landfill to pollute our water, expanded incinerator to pollute our air, or recycling to keep our home beautiful.
